TECH OFFICIAL TO BECOME DEAN AT IND. UNIVERSITY

David R. Ford, associate vice president for facilities at Virginia Tech, will become vice president for instruction and dean of the faculty at Vincennes (Ind.) University on Aug. 1.

Ford will be chief academic officer of the state-supported community college, which has more than 10,000 students and 400 faculty members, Tech said in a news release Thursday.

His duties will include hiring and evaluating faculty members and all academic advising matters. Eight instructional divisions will report to him.

At Tech, Ford is in charge of the physical plant; facilities planning and construction; and public safety, health and transportation. He oversees 550 employees and a $25 million budget.

"Virginia Tech's facilities have progressed considerably under David Ford's leadership," said Minnis Ridenour, executive vice president and chief business officer. "Vincennes University is lucky to have him, and we will miss him."

Ford holds a doctorate in crop physiology and biochemistry from Purdue University. He taught agronomy for Purdue and was stationed in Vincennes from 1969-71.

He came to Tech in 1978 as assistant dean and director of resident instruction for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
