Rypien shot even-par 72 to finish the 54-hole scratch tournament with a 5-over total of 221 and earned $75,000 in spending money for training camp. Dick Anderson, a former defensive back with the Miami Dolphins, shot a 74 to finish at 222.
Anderson narrowly missed forcing a playoff when his putt for eagle on the par-5 18th hole slid past the cup. His approach shot, from between two trees 215 yards from the hole, nearly hit the pin.
"I thought, `Here comes the old safety blitz,' when Dick hit that shot on the 18th," Rypien said.
Anderson, who succeeded 1990 U.S. Open winner Hale Irwin as the Colorado State Amateur champion, earned $37,500 for his second-place finish.
Actor Jack Wagner, who began the day one stroke behind second-round leader Steve Bartkowski, played himself out of contention with a triple bogey on the par-5 third hole and bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes. His 76 Sunday left him third at 223.
Bartkowski had a double bogey and a triple bogey early in his final round and finished with a round of 79. He and Steve Spurrier tied for fourth at 225.
NBA star Michael Jordan, who drew the largest following in the tournament, shot 75 Sunday and finished ninth, at 228.
The last-place finisher was Detroit Pistons coach Chuck Daly, who fired a 95 to finish at 295.
