The U.S. Court of Appeals in Boston ruled in favor of the Boston Celtics in the NBA team's contract dispute with guard Brian Shaw, affirming a lower court's decision that Shaw must terminate his contract with Il Messaggero of the Italian league.
The agent for Shaw, who signed a five-year, $6.2 million contract with the Celtics on Jan. 26, sent the Celtics a letter June 6 saying he intended to honor the second year of his contract with Il Messaggero. The judge enjoined Shaw from playing with any other team but the Celtics from 1990 to 1994.
\ A grand larceny warrant has been sworn out against former Marshall University star Skip Henderson, the Southern Conference's all-time scoring leader, stemming from his employment at a car dealership in Huntington, W.Va.
Henderson, who scored 2,574 points for Marshall from 1984-88, has moved to his mother's house in Cartersville, Ga., preventing authorities from serving the warrant, West Virginia state police said.
State police Trooper K.D. Pearson said the felony charge stems from the disappearance of a $19,500 car for about a week. Witnesses have said they saw the car at Henderson's house in Huntington during the time it was gone, Pearson said.
