23-YEAR-OLD DROWNS IN CLAYTOR LAKE

A 23-year-old man drowned Monday night while swimming in a cove at Claytor Lake near Dublin in Pulaski County.

Witnesses told county rescue workers they had seen the man go under but did not see him come up. Rescue divers arrived minutes later and retrieved the man's body, but they could not revive him, a county rescue squad spokesman said.

The man had been swimming about 7:15 p.m. at a cove at a public boat landing. He was taken to Radford Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The spokesman said the man's name was not being released because family members had not yet been notified.
