NEW LIME KILN SHOW FEATURES FOLK MUSIC STARS

"Virgil Powers," a new show written by Don Baker and featuring the music of Robin and Linda Williams, goes into previews July 23 at Lime Kiln Theater and opens on Friday, July 27.

The play is loosely based on the life of an old blind man whom Baker met in the mountains years ago. He was a vivid character and storyteller whose life seemed to Baker the embodiment of contradictory strains in Appalachian history.

Baker is Lime Kiln's artistic director. He has written a new work for five of Lime Kiln's six summer seasons. One of them, "Stonewall Country," marked his first collaboration with nationally known country/folk music stars Robin and Linda Williams.

Baker directs "Virgil Powers." The musical director is Brent Hall of Staunton.

Tommy Thompson plays the title role. Thompson is a member of the Red Clay Ramblers, an internationally known bluegrass music band. After the previews and opening performance, "Virgil Powers" will go into rotation with "Munci Meg" and "Stonewall Country" at the outdoor theater near Lexington.

For dates and ticket prices, call the theater box office at (703) 463-3074. ***CORRECTION***

Because of a copy editor's error, a headline in Wednesday's Extra section incorrectly indicated that Robin and Linda Williams are featured in "Virgil Powers," the new play opening July 27 at Lime Kiln Arts near Lexington. The couple wrote the music for the play, but they are not in the cast.
