BOMB BLAST DAMAGES LONDON STOCK MARKET

A bomb blast rocked the London stock exchange in the heart of the financial district on Friday after warnings said to be from the Irish Republican Army were telephoned to the police and news organizations.

The police said no one was wounded in the explosion, which ripped a hole in the 23-story building on Threadneedle Street and sent a shower of glass and concrete onto the street just before the start of the business day.

London police said the warning provided time to evacuate as many as 300 people from the building and close off the surrounding area 20 minutes before the bomb went off.
