SUPERVISORS OK THE EXPANSION OF TWIN CREEKS MOBILE HOME PARK

Montgomery County supervisors have approved plans to expand a Plum Creek mobile home park from six trailers to as many as 112.

The park, Twin Creeks, was approved Monday night despite concerns that it could cause overcrowding at Bethel Elementary School and strain the water and sewer system. The park is off Rock Road (Virginia 688) near U.S. 11.

Approval was unanimous, with Supervisors George Gray and James Moore absent.

The park's special use permit requires developers to create a recreation area and mandates that all homes be served by public sewer.

Final plans are subject to approval by the zoning administrator, and the state Department of Transportation must pass muster on the two proposed entrances.

On another matter, the board approved a special use permit that would enable First National Bank of Christiansburg to sell a house on Jennelle Road (Virginia 642) to a fraternity or sorority.

The vote was 3-2, with Supervisor Ira Long and board Chairwoman Ann Hess opposing the request.

The buyer must create a parking area for at least 30 vehicles. No more than eight people may live on the property, which is near another fraternity house and several homes and businesses.

In other business, the board:

Set an Aug. 27 public hearing on the county's proposed $6.7 million bond referendum.

Agreed to spend $6,592 to continue expanded operating hours at the county recycling center. The center is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.
