One of the youths, 18-year-old Tracy Faulkner of Gilmer Avenue Northwest, was listed in serious condition today in the intensive care unit at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The other, 19-year-old Milton Jones of Troutland Avenue Northwest, was treated and released Tuesday night at Community Hospital.
Both teens were struck in the back by gunfire as they sat in the rear seat of the car that was being chased, police said.
Authorities said the teens and three other youths were riding in the area of Fifth Street and Fairfax Avenue about 11:30 p.m. when a burgundy Honda Civic began to follow them.
Several shots - apparently fired from a large-caliber semiautomatic weapon - were fired at the car from the Honda, police said.
As the car carrying Faulkner and Jones sped away, the Honda gave chase to the Moorman Road area, with its occupants firing shots the entire way, police said.
Two of the shots struck the fleeing car in the trunk, passed through the back seat and hit the two youths in the back.
The chase ended when the pursued car ran off the road in the 1600 block of Moorman Road and crashed. None of the other occupants were injured.
Police said the shooting apparently stemmed from a dispute the two groups had had earlier this year at Festival in the Park.
