SEARCH ON FOR DELEGATES TO GOVERNOR'S LIBRARY MEETING

The meeting for the 6th and 9th congressional districts is Sept. 22 at Hollins College, 1-5 p.m.

There will be 200 delegates to the governor's conference, with 160 selected by districts at the regional meetings and 40 named at-large. Borrowing from the state's famous tourism theme, the conference slogan is "Virginia is for libraries," said Ann Eastman, steering committee chairman.

Of the delegates, 25 percent will be professionals, 25 percent will be Friends, trustees and other library supporters. The other 50 percent will be local, state and national government officials and the public.

Kim Martens, Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library director, is recruiting delegates and working with the issues paper committee for the state conference. She said finding people who know something about libraries and are willing to serve is difficult.

People willing to be a delegate to the Governor's Conference can reach Martens at the Sheltman Street headquarters library in Christiansburg or call 382-6965.

Delegates chosen at the regional conference are expected to attend the two-day state conference at the Richmond Marriott. Travel, food and hotel accommodations will be provided to the delegates, but Eastman hopes other people "will be interested enough to audit" the conference.
