NAMES AND CHANGES

Kroger names regional chief

EDWIN A. SIEVEKING has been named president of Kroger's Mid-Atlantic Marketing Area. He came to Kroger in 1956 and was promoted to vice president of the area in 1977. His new title reflects the increased responsibility and authority given division heads since the company's restructuring in 1988. Sieveking is responsible for 114 supermarkets with 12,000 employees in Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. It is one of Kroger's largest regions and includes distribution centers in Salem and Charleston, W.Va.

\ ROY T. MITCHELL has been promoted to president of American of Martinsville Residential Casegoods, a division of LADD Furniture Inc. Mitchell joined American of Martinsville in 1979 and has been executive vice president and general manager since 1988. The company manufactures residential wood bedroom, dining room and occasional furniture and curio cabinets. Its headquarters are in High Point, N.C., with manufacturing operations in Martinsville, Va.

\ MANUFACTURING

WILLIAM J. GLEESON has been named manager of manufacturing operations for the Rock Drill Division World Headquarters of Ingersoll-Rand Co. in Roanoke. JOHN TEKOWITZ has been named manager of human resources for the division.

\ COLLEGES,UNIVERSITIES

FRED R. MEADE, a marketing, management and economic development consultant from Tampa, Fla., has been named director of Virginia Tech's Corporate Research Center.

\ THOMAS H. ADAMS has been promoted to dean of administrative services at the College of Health Sciences.

Roanoke College has announced the following appointments: HEATHER DAVIS, assistant director of annual resources; MARY JANE ELKINS, director of capital projects; TERI LEMONS, director of alumni and parent relations; STUART SULLIVAN, director of planned giving; and DOROTHY WILLIAMS, director of development.

UTILITIES

Appalachian Power Co. has announced two promotions effective Aug. 1: R. DANIEL CARSON JR., executive assistant to the president responsible for Virginia governmental affairs, will assume responsibility for the General Office Rates and Accounting departments. MARK S. LAWRENCE will become governmental affairs manager.

\ DAVID E. BERRY, formerly with Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. in Roanoke, has been elected president and chief executive officer of Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. of West Virginia.

BANKING

\ Dominion Bank has announced the following promotions: LAURENCE M. LEVY, a commercial banking officer, to assistant vice president; KATHERINE L. CHISOM, a senior credit analyst, to credit officer; and STEPHEN F. DOWNIE, a commercial and consumer lender, to branch officer.

\ LORRIE K. TEEGEN has been promoted to trust officer at Crestar Bank.

\ JAMES R. WHEELING has been named president and chief executive officer of Tazewell National Bank. JOHN G. GLAVARIS, a director of the bank, which is an affiliate of Premier Bankshares Corp., has been elected to the board of directors of Premier.
