THREE GATORS WIN EVENTS AT JUNIOR OLYMPICS MEET

Daniel Summerlin, Brian Marsh and Carolyn Butcher all earned first-place finishes Sunday to lead the Roanoke Valley Gators to fifth place at the Virginia Long Course Junior Olympics Swimming Championships.

Summerlin finished first in the 200-meter butterfly, Marsh won the 100 butterfly and Butcher captured the 100 butterfly.

The Poseidon Swim Club of Richmond won the team competition.

Members of the Roanoke Valley Gators and their results were:

10-under girls: Carolyn Butcher, first, 100 butterfly; second, 100 freestyle; sixth, 50 backstroke. Michelle Roach, second, 100 butterfly. Mandy Lippitt, eighth, 50 backstroke. 200 medley relay team (Butcher, Roach, Lippitt and Molly Henderson), fifth.

11-12 boys: Brian Marsh, first, 100 butterfly; second, 100 freestyle.

13-14 girls: Brooke Adams, second, 200 backstroke.

13-14 boys: David Feldman, fifth, 100 freestyle.

15-18 girls: Ashley Roe, fourth, 100 freestyle. Shannon Goff, third, 200 backstroke; fourth, 100 freestyle. Meredith Hale, fourth, 200 backstroke.

15-18 boys: Daniel Summerlin, first, 200 butterfly. - Staff report
