Richardson (1-1) walked four and struck out five as the Bucs won their second straight game after losing 11 in a row.
Salem got three hits from Mandy Romero and two from Bruce Schreiber in spoiling the pitching debut of Peninsula starter Kevin King (0-1).
In the third inning, Chris Estep walked and Austin Manahan dropped a sacrifice bunt. Estep took advantage of a Peninsula mental error and went all the way to third when nobody was covering that base. He then scored on a grounder by Greg Sims.
The Bucs added a run in the sixth when Schreiber singled with one out. One out later, Romero doubled to left-center field to score Schreiber.
That finished King, who was Philadelphia's seventh-round selection in June's major-league draft and making his first Carolina League start.
Salem closed the scoring in the eighth off Peninsula reliever Ron Mullins. Sims coaxed a walk, advanced to third on a single by Schreiber and scored on a fielder's choice by Darwin Pennye.
