INCREASE IN TRICHINOSIS CASES IN '90 REPORTED

Trichinosis, the parasitic infection caused by eating raw or undercooked pork, made a dramatic return for the first time in 15 years, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control.

The first outbreak occurred late last summer in Des Moines, Iowa, where 90 people who had attended the same wedding became ill after eating raw pork sausage, according to a report published in the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report on Thursday.

A second outbreak occurred last fall in Staunton, Va., where 15 cases of trichinosis were reported.
