No one was injured, and a suspect was captured by police after a car chase, authorities said.
The incident occurred at 5:25 a.m. when security guard Dennis Tucker responded to an alarm at the Virginia Beach complex, CBN spokeswoman Susan Norman said.
The gunman shot at Tucker several times and missed, but one shot went through the front window of the CBN headquarters building, Norman said.
The suspect had left two "suspicious-looking packages" at CBN founder Pat Robertson's house, which is part of the CBN complex, said L.B. Thurston of the Virginia Beach police.
Police notified the fire department, which found no explosive devices in the packages.
