CHURCH CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULED TO BEGIN

The congregation of Main Street United Methodist Church has taken another step toward construction of a new $950,000 worship center.

At a recent special meeting, members accepted the architect's final plans, authorized sealed bids to be sought and approved the employment of a professional fund-raiser.

A staff member said construction is to start May 1. Between now and then members will be encouraged to make pledges toward a $600,000 goal to reduce borrowing costs.

The old church, found to be structurally unsafe several years ago, was demolished in 1988. Fellowship and education space now is used for worship.

A campaign to raise funds to build the new Main Street United Methodist Church in Bedford will be conducted by members of the church - not a professional fund raiser, as stated in a story Saturday.
