\ ARDEN N. HUFF, retired Virginia Tech extension animal scientist, received the Extension Service Award from the Virginia Agribusiness Council at its 20th annual membership meeting in Richmond.
Huff received the award for superior service to the agricultural industry. He was cited for his dedicated leadership of adult and 4-H horse extension programs and for other horse programs that have served as models in the U.S.
\ LUCILLE W. DRAPER of Owens & Draper Co. Realtors in Christiansburg was named 1990 Realtor of the Year by the New River Valley Association of Realtors.
Draper received the award for best exemplifying team spirit by involvement in both civic affairs and the association.
\ WILLIAM BONDURANT of Bondurant Realty Corp. in Radford was Bondurant named 1990 Sales Associate of the Year by the New River Valley Association of Realtors.
The award recognizes exemplary service to clients, participation in the association and a successful year in listing and selling.
Leadership by individual real estate firms was recognized with the Honor Firm Award by the New River Valley Association of Realtors. This award is presented to firms that have promoted good will through various community and civic activities through the efforts of their agents.
Achieving Honor Firm Awards for 1990 were: MARYLOU LTD. REALTOR, SKELTON & ASSOCIATES INC., COLDWELL BANKER VALLEY-WIDE and OWENS & CO. REALTORS.
\ DR. JAYASHREE C. VELIYATH, an internal medicine specialist, has joined the staff of Pulaski Community Hospital and New River Internal Medicine in Dublin.
Veliyath completed her residency at Grant Hospital of Chicago and obtained her board certification in internal medicine in 1990.
\ R. DOUGLAS SWING has joined the respiratory staff of Advanced Health Care Services, a home medical-equipment provider.
Swing, a registered respiratory therapist, is the former director of respiratory care and neurology services at Radford Community Hospital.
\ KAY C. STRATTON has become an associate broker with Townside Inc. Realtors. Other additions to the firm include BETTY SANDERS, SANDRA MARTIN and STUART COVEY.
Associates at Raines Real Estate/Better Homes and Gardens who recently completed the first in a series of Better Homes and Gardens Master Classes on devloping a prospect-source network are: JUNE ALMOND, SHIRLEY KNACK, JANET SWIGER, PAT ADAMS, PATTY MOSTAGHIMI, LINDA JAMETSKY, BILL O'NEILL, JAMES CHRISTOPHER, JUDY FITHIAN and ILA RYE. Upon completion of all six master classes, associates will earn the designation of residential marketing master.
\ MARY GUYNN, a lab technologist for the research and development lab at Litton Poly-Scientific in Blacksburg, retired after more than 24 years of service.
Guynn joined the company in 1966 as an inspector. She joined the research and development department in 1967 where she held several positions, including senior lab technician.
\ BOB ASHLEY of Southern Security Specialty Services Inc. was elected 1991 president of the Radford Chamber of Commerce.
Ashley has been associated with the Chamber for five years and last year headed the economic development division.
New 1991 officers elected to the Radford Chamber of Commerce are: president-elect DOUG BOWMAN, who is president of Crestar Bank; and treasurer JIM DURHAM, a training and process engineer for New River Industries.
Also joining the Radford Chamber board are NICOLE KINSER, spokeswoman for Radford Army Ammunition Plant, DIANE LEPCHITZ, manager of Felix Books and Gifts, and FRED NEWHOUSE, senior vice president of First National Bank of Christiansburg-Radford. Directors-at-large are VELMA NESTER, human relations administrator for Inland Motors, and JIM GRIFFITH, manager of C&P Telephone in the New River Valley.
\ JANET SCHACK, activity director at Heritage Hall in Blacksburg, is now a certified activity director approved by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals. The council maintains standards of experience and excellence in the development and leadership of activities in nursing homes, senior centers, retirement housing and adult day care facilities.
