Prayers are delivered, but as hope fails in each of us, we wonder if our prayers merely linger in the vast skies, circling the stars - unheard. Voices crying for freedom and peace echo in the darkness of space and are redirected into our homes where we watch and listen. In between commercials and the 8 o'clock movie, we pause to view the world affairs.
Peace demonstrations are held with passion, reminding us of a time, two and three decades ago, when we found ourselves and our children fighting for causes unknown, not really knowing who was the enemy.
Now a new generation faces war and is doomed to be scarred and stained forever. Another battle faces us, but when it is over, who will have won? The battle will live on in the minds of the survivors.
In all corners of God's blessed earth, there seems to be such massive discontent. So many unstoppable forces. So many boundaries and policies. Wars over harsh words. Wars over land. But someday, those words will have no ear to rest in and no hearts to stir. The lands will remain - empty and free. And what difference will this all make then?
Here is where we stand. God save us from ourselves. LINDA A. LEGG RADFORD
