DOWDY, HAZEL H. \ FINCASTLE - Hazel Minerva Heck Dowdy of Route 1,

Fincastle, died Sunday, February 3, 1991, in a Roanoke hospital. She was born in Fincastle, Botetourt County, Va., the daughter of the late Aubin Boulier Heck Sr. and Maggie Dupree Heck. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma Heck Deal, Rubye Heck Martin, and Claudine Heck Shay; three brothers, Bowyer E. Heck, Howard B. Heck and James D. Heck. She is survived by her husband, James Edward Dowdy; two sisters, Mrs. Carl T. (Josephine) Garber, Buchanan; Mrs. George W. (Helen) Cyphers, Roanoke County; one brother, Aubin Boulier (Jack) Heck Jr., Pearisburg; eight nieces; five nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She made a profession of faith at the Mill Creek Baptist Church in Botetourt County and was baptized into the fellowship of that church by the Reverend Gordon H. Broyles, minister of the church at that time. She transferred her membership to the Rockingham Court Methodist Church in Roanoke after her marriage to James Edward Dowdy on July 28, 1934. They resided in Roanoke for twenty years then moved to Botetourt County in 1954, where they established and operated a variety store in the Town of Buchanan for many years. During World War II she followed her husband as he moved into a number of states until his call to overseas duty. Funeral services will be held at the graveside in the Masonic Section of the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Roanoke, on Wednesday, February 6, 1991, at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be her nephew, the Reverend William Manley Cash, minister of the Calvary Baptist Church, Covington, Va. Nephews and great-nephews of the deceased serving as honorary pallbearers will be E. Rodney Heck, Howard B. Heck Jr., Edward L. Heck, D. Eugene Williams, Larry E. Deal, John T. Heck and Daniel R. Heck. It was the wish of the deceased that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to charities of your choice. The family will receive friends at Lotz Roanoke Chapel Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
