CRAIGHEAD, MITTIE J.

Mrs. Mittie Shuff Jones Craig- head, age 94, of Crescent Blvd., died Sunday. Mrs. Craighead was an active member of New Hope Christian Church. She was born in Wythe County on September 15, 1896, the daughter of the late Mark Harden and Lucinda Jones. She was the widow of Elonzia L. Craighead, Sr., formerly of Floyd County, Va. She was owner and proprietor of Virginia Grocery for 56 years and the developer of a water company which served the residents of 220 South and Starkey Rd. area until the purchase and development of Tanglewood Mall. She was preceded in death by her three children, Jones A. Craighead, and most recently Junior Craighead and Dorothy Nye. She is survived by her devoted daughter-in-law, Iris B. Craighead; grandchildren, Joyce Marleen Begley, Carol Robertson Campbell, B.W. Robertson, II, all of Roanoke; great-grandchildren, George and Charley Begley; Christy, Neil, and Beth Campbell; Donna Mack, Benny and Danny Robertson, all of Roanoke; two great-great-grandchildren, Emily and Isaac Mack, both of Troutville. She was blessed with loving nieces and nephews, Peachie Kingery, Virginia Reedy, Catherine Vandergrift, all of Roanoke; Lois Ogle, Marion; Harry Jones, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Clarence (Bo) Jones, Oscala, Fla.; other devoted nieces and nephews include the Jones and Sanders families of Radford and Pulaski County; sisters-in law and brothers-in-law including Thelma, Blanche, Reba, and Carl Craighead; Bessie McDonald, all of the Roanoke Area; numerous beloved nieces and nephews of the Craighead and Wilson families. Among her many cherished friends are Lorraine VanBriggle and Billy Middleton. Funeral services will be conducted at New Hope Christian Church, 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 6, 1991 with Rev. David M. Derrow officiating. Interment in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Lotz Roanoke Chapel.
