Franklin County is the host school for the dual meet, which leads to a team state championship. Only Group AAA has dual meet championships. The Eagles face Albemarle and Cave Spring meets Woodbridge in simultaneous matches at 2 p.m. The finals will be held at 4 with the winning team advancing to a four-team Group AAA meet on March 9 at a site to be determined in the Northern Region.
There also are five Group AA district meets scheduled. The Blue Ridge District meet at Lord Botetourt is a wide open affair; Carroll County is a heavy favorite to take the New River District crown at Radford.
Martinsville is a favorite in the Piedmont District meet at Bassett; Marion plays host to the Highlands District meet and is a slim choice there; and Brookville will be the site of the Seminole District tournament with the Bees a heavy favorite.
The Roanoke Valley District meet will be a week from today at Franklin County. The Pioneer and Mountain Empire districts do not hold a meet; they will send their teams right to the Region C meet next weekend at Natural Bridge.
Chilhowie won the Hogoheegee title a week ago, and the top four wrestlers in each weight class from that district go to the Region D meet next weekend at Powell Valley. - Staff report
