Bedford County Sheriff Carl Wells on Friday released a photograph taken by a camera mounted on the bank's wall.
Wells already had taken the picture to law enforcement agencies within a 75-mile radius of Bedford, without luck.
"So we're asking the public if they know this individual," Wells said.
The man, described as 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds, entered Bedford Federal Savings Bank at 4:41 p.m. Jan. 25, pulled out a gun and told a teller to put cash in a bag, Wells said.
"Don't put any funny stuff in it," the man told the teller as he handed over the bag, Wells said.
Wells would not say how much cash was taken.
He asked that anyone with information call the sheriff's department at (703) 586-7827 from Bedford, (804) 299-5075 from Big Island or (703) 982-8932 from Roanoke.
Callers wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Line at (703) 586-9100.
