Salem (5-11 overall, 1-4 in Blue Ridge) scrapped with Northside (15-1, 5-0) and trailed by three going into the fourth quarter. But the Vikings, ranked fifth in Group AA, extended their lead to 10 with about four minutes left.
Salem got no closer than five, and Northside sealed it with free throws.
Chad Briscoe scored 15 for the Vikings and Brian Burke added 10. Jay Sandy led Salem with 15 points, and Corey Epperly chipped in 12.

\ COVINGTON - Jamie Bazzrea came off the bench to score 13 points and led four Mountaineers in double-figure scoring as Alleghany stayed a game behind Blue Ridge District-leading Northside with a victory against the Terriers.
Alleghany (11-6, 4-1) trailed 17-14 after a quarter, but sank three 3-pointers in the second and outscored William Byrd (7-9, 0-5) 29-19 to take control. The Mountaineers made 13 of 21 floor shots in the quarter.
Bazzrea scored all of his points in the first half. John Stone and Jason Buzzard had 12 points each and Todd Wheatley added 10 for Alleghany. John Smith scored a game-high 22 for William Byrd.

\ RADFORD - Center Jon Maher, despite having the flu, made a layup with 17 seconds left to lift the Indians to the New River District victory over the Bobcats.
It clinched at least a tie for the district title for Blacksburg (13-4, 4-0).
Just 19 seconds earlier, Maher fought his way inside to rebound Chad Phillips' missed free throw. Phillips had made the first free throw of the two-shot foul, giving Radford (7-11, 1-3) a short-lived 65-64 lead.

\ LYNCHBURG - The Bulldogs (15-1) shut out Catholic in the opening quarter, then held off the Celtics' charge for a victory in a matchup of the Blue Ridge Conference division champions
Jenny Desaegher scored 18 points, including three 3-point goals, to lead Lynchburg Christian, which won the North Division.
South Division winner Roanoke Catholic (15-4) was paced by Amoreli Ronquillo with 11 points.
After trailing 15-0 in the first quarter because of 0-of-14 shooting, the Celtics, battling foul trouble, switched to a zone defense and made some adjustments on offense that resulted in more rebounds and several stickbacks. They pulled to 22-14 at halftime.
