STATE RANKING SLIPS IN SURVEY ON CHILDREN

Virginia slipped four places to 22nd nationally in a survey measuring the health, safety and education of children, the Center for the Study of Social Policy reported.

The 1991 report, called Kids Count, is based on information gathered in 1988 and was compared with data from the previous year and the early 1980s.

The survey released this week considers the percentages of children graduating from high school, living in poverty, spending time in jail and having babies out of wedlock. - Associated Press
