TWO ROANOKE BOXERS WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Two boxers from Roanoke won their divisions in the final night of the 1991 Virginia State Amateur Boxing Championships at the Valley Sports Arena on Saturday.

Joe Farrell won the 156-pound Novice Division championship by scoring a decision over Willie Daniels. Steve Pannell won the title when the referee stopped his fight against Tim Bailey in the first round of the 178-pound Open Division.

Ferrell also received the Sportsmanship Award, and Pannell was honored as the Outstanding Open Boxer.

112-pound Senior (age 14-15) - Scott Matney (Buchanan Boxing Club) def. James Lee (Stafford Boxing Club), referee stopped contest in second round.

119-pound Senior - Chris DeLeon (Jay's Gym) def. Lorenzo Harris (JABBO Boxing Club), referee stopped fight in first round. NOVICE DIVISION

132-pound - Tommy McCoy (East Side Boxing Club) dec. Curtis Fowler (Stafford Boxing Club).

139-pound - Dan Summerlin (East Side Boxing Club) dec. Clark Walters (Walters Boxing Club).

156-pound - Joe Farrell (Virginia Tech Boxing Club) dec. Willie Daniels (Virginia Beach Boxing Club).

165-pound - Tim Mitchell (Stafford Boxing Club) dec. James Haywood (Glasgow County Boxing Club).

178-pound - Damon Hill (JABBO Boxing Club) def. Roy Altizer (Roanoke Boxing Club), referee stopped contest in second round. OPEN DIVISION
