BRIEFLY . . .

Financial News Network Inc. said Tuesday it would sell its business news cable television service to a joint venture owned by the publisher of The Wall Street Journal and Westinghouse Broadcasting Co. Terms of the tentative agreement were not disclosed, although the price was said to be less than the company's total liabilities.

Fieldcrest Cannon Inc. of Greensboro, N.C., operator of a towel mill at Fieldale, on Tuesday reported a 1990 loss of $37.8 million, down from $23.4 million a year earlier. Sales came to $1.2 billion, down 14 percent. The company said it lost $25.9 million in the fourth quarter as a result of a $31.5 million pretax charge for discontinuing automatic-blanket operations, compared with income of $8.2 million a year ago. Quarterly sales were $337.9 million, down 10 percent.
