SPECIAL OLYMPICS EVENT SATURDAY AT TECH

Western Virginia Special Olympians will compete in Saturday's Winter Sports Invitational at Virginia Tech War Memorial Gym.

More than 150 mentally retarded athletes will compete in basketball and gymnastics.

Opening Ceremonies are at 10 a.m. Competition starts at 11 a.m. and closing ceremonies will be held starting about 4 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to cheer on the teams. Registration is 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the gym.

More than 7,000 athletes participate in Virginia Special Olympics. Special Olympics International has 1 million athletes. It has launched its "Join the World of Winners" campaign to reach out to another million retarded people. Call 951-2918 or (800) 526-6132.
