LUMBERYARD WORKER KILLED IN FRANKLIN

A 37-year-old forklift operator was killed Tuesday in an accident at the Ferguson Land & Lumber Co. here, authorities said.

Roger Dale Anderson of Route 2, Rocky Mount, was pronounced dead at Franklin Memorial Hospital, according to officer James Wright of the Rocky Mount Police Department.

Anderson was working in an area by himself at the Ferguson Land & Lumber Co., and no one saw the accident occur, Wright said. The victim was found between 10:45 and 11 a.m. pinned beneath some lumber.

Wright said it appeared that Anderson had climbed off his forklift and was preparing wood for stacking when the forklift rolled forward, pinning him against the lumber.
