Franklin was undefeated during the RVD season, but lost 39-14 to powerful Woodbridge in the finals of the Northwest Regional Duals Saturday in Rocky Mount.
"We lost a lot of close matches," said Kahila. "It was disappointing, but I hope it all puts us in a fighting mood for the district."
Among the top entries from Franklin for the RVD are senior Scott Southall (112), senior Jeff Tatum (119), junior Charles Ellis (125), sophomore Hasani Menefee (135) and sophomore Thomas Simmons (140).
Three seniors, who won against Woodbridge, are expected to pace Cave Spring in the RVD - undefeated Adam Williams (130), Noah Tempkin (135) and Eddie Johnson (140).
Coach George Miller's young Fleming team will include sophomore Keno Shepherd (103), sophomore heavyweight Irving Kier and freshman Eddie Jones (160).
Patrick Henry, which has had a rather disappointing season, does have one defending RVD champion in senior Paul Kelly (160).
The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the regionals next weekend, also at Franklin.
In Region 3 action, host Lord Botetourt will be led by three district champions - undefeated junior Bryan Anderson (152), junior Cary Bednarek (145) and junior heavyweight Andy Shields.
Coach Fred Wagner's Northside team enjoyed an undefeated regular season, but finished second to champion Alleghany County in the Blue Ridge tourney. The Vikings had only one district champion in senior Tony Garland (130). Northside lost eight of its nine final matches, but did qualify all but its 140-pound entry for the regionals.
Three district champions from William Byrd - sophomore Kevin Flippen (103), senior Mark Andrews (125) and senior Rick Casey (160) - will lead the Terriers in the regionals.
Salem, which has only three in the regionals, will be led by district champion junior Luqman Wade (112).
The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the state tourney next weekend at Liberty University.
James River, Glenvar and the rest of the Pioneer District will join Narrows and Grayson County from the Mountain Empire District for the Region C action at Natural Bridge.
Two former champions will lead the Glenvar attack - senior Jamie Soltis (112) and sophomore Jason Porter (135). Soltis won at 103 last year while Porter was the 130-pound champion. Other Highlanders expected to make top showings include senior Marvin Loyd (130), sophomore Brandon Semones (160) and senior Denny Stanley (189).
Undefeated senior David Perry, the defending 145 champion, will lead James River. Coach Otis Timberlake also points to four others for title bids - sophomore Tony Bocanegra (103), junior Chris Conner (125), sophomore Jimmy Adams (130) and junior heavyweight Robbie Hendricks.
The top three entries in each weight class will advance to the state next weekend at Washington and Lee University.
Coach Ed Dickenson's North Cross team is not given much of a chance at Hargrave, but Dickenson hopes for a much better showing than last year when the Raiders had only one medal winner - third-place sophomore Aaron Lange (160).
The Raiders were winless last year, but won four matches this season and made stronger showings in their losses. Probably the top Raider entry this time is junior Steve Harman (152).
