The Troutville Town Council voted Tuesday to accept a $229,800 bid submitted by E.C. Pace & Co. Inc. of Roanoke to extend the town's water supply to Exit 44 of Interstate 81.
The extension is being made to attract new business to the area, Mayor Jewell Tyndall said.
Council also voted to borrow money for the water line extension project from the Bank of Fincastle.
The town could get a $252,000 loan at a 7 percent interest rate for 20 years from the Bank of Fincastle. Dominion Bank was offering the same loan at 7 1/2 percent for 15 years, Tyndall said.
She said the town wanted the longer repayment schedule in order to have smaller monthly payments.
A public hearing on the project will be held Wednesday.
In other business:
Council voted to allow Don Doss to hold bingo and other activities in the old Troutville Farm Supply building.
Tyndall told council that the Botetourt County Sheriff's Department has been successful in removing 90 percent of the abandoned cars in the town.
