Ginsberg, author of "Howl!" and other works, will present a poetry reading Tuesday night at 8, a talk titled "Poetry, Music: The End of the Cold War" Wednesday night at 7:30 and another talk called "Poetry, Meditation and Aggression" Thursday night at 7:30.
He will sign copies of his works Thursday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 at the campus bookstore.

NEW AGE AND JAZZ: Mark Isham, keyboardist and trumpeter in the New Age movement, will perform at the Iroquois Club in Roanoke Monday night at 9. Doors open at 8. Isham is a Grammy Award nominee. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 on the day of the show.
HORSING AROUND: The Royal Lipizzaner Stallions will step out at the Salem Civic Center tonight at 8. Tickets are $11.50 for adults, $9.50 for children and senior citizens, and there are some limited VIP seats for $13.50. Tickets are available through Ticketron and the Salem Civic Center.
SHOWTIME: "Forbidden Broadway," a musical comedy that pokes fun at Broadway musicals and stars, will come to Preston Hall at Radford University Wednesday night at 8.

GOSPEL CHOIRS: The third annual College Choir Festival sponsored by Roanoke's Pilgrim Baptist Church will be Sunday evening at 5 at the Roanoke Civic Center auditorium.
Performers will include gospel choirs from several universities including Radford, James Madison, Virginia State, East Carolina and North Carolina A&T, plus the Bethel Male Chorus from Reidsville, N.C.

BLACK MUSIC: The New River Valley Symphony will celebrate Black History Month by presenting a concert of works by black composers. It will be Saturday night at 8 in Burruss Hall Auditorium on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg.
The pieces will range from Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's "The Bamboula" to Duke Ellington's "New World's A'Comin'."

GUITAR-DRIVEN POP: The Connells, a rising young band out of Raleigh, N.C., will play at the Roanoke Civic Center auditorium tonight at 8. The occasion is the second anniversary celebration of WROV-FM (96.3) radio in Roanoke. Tickets are $9.
HOT PICKS: Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys will bring classic bluegrass to Floyd Elementary School on Saturday night at 7:30. Tickets are $7 in advance for adults, $5 for children under age 12.
ARTISTRY: China's foremost pianist, Yin Cheng-Zong, will perform at Lynchburg College on Tuesday night at 8.
The winner of the silver medal in the Tchaikovsky Piano Competition has played with major orchestras worldwide. The Washington Post has called him a "gargantuan musical talent."

AFTERNOON CONCERT: Bernie Whitman, music instructor and jazz musician, will be honored with a big band concert Tuesday afternoon from 3 to 4:15 at the Whitman Auditorium on the Virginia Western Community College campus in Roanoke.
Whitman, a longtime Roanoke resident who died in 1989, played in bands led by Stan Kenton, Guy Lombardo and Glenn Miller, among others, and spent years teaching students of all ages what he knew.
His bequest of $280,000 for scholarships and liberal education at Virginia Western was the largest in the college's history.
Dennis Reaser and the Salem High School Stage Band will provide the entertainment. The dedication ceremony is open to all for no charge.
