The policy, effective Jan. 1, provides $1,000 per month to augment military pay as well as current levels of medical, dental and life insurance benefits. War-related exclusions in the life insurance also will be waived.
"Reservists who have been called to active duty in this war have been asked to make tremendous sacrifices. They shouldn't have to sacrifice their families' well-being, too," said Arnold B. McKinnon, chairman of the Norfolk-based transportation company. "This is one way we can help."
Some 50 Norfolk Southern employees - clerks, welders, machinists, trainmen, carmen, brakemen, engineers and customer accounting representatives - have been called to active duty. Of those, 11 are stationed in the war zone.
