PULLEN SELECTED COACH OF THE YEAR

Ferrum College coach Bill Pullen, who guided the Panthers' turnaround from worst to almost first, has been voted the Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball coach of the year.

Pullen, in his sixth season at Ferrum, took the Panthers to 15-9 regular-season record and a 7-3 league mark, good for second place in the Dixie. Last season, Ferrum was 8-17 overall and 1-9 in the league.

Panthers junior forward Everett Foxx, second in the league with a 22.5 scoring average, was a first team All-Dixie selection.

Rounding out the first team, which contained the league's top-five scorers, were Dixie scoring champion and player of the year Lamont Strothers (25.9 ppg) from Christopher Newport; Antonio Randolph (20.3 ppg) from Averett; Greensboro freshman Cory White, who averaged 18.8 points and led the league with 10.4 rebounds a game; and Christopher Newport point guard Steve Artis, who averaged 17.6 points and was second in assists with nine per game.

Ferrum's Kerri Lynch and Sarah Quesenberry, who each averaged just over 12 points, were women's second-team All-Dixie selections. - Staff report
