ROANOKE WOMEN WIN EASILY

Debbie Jones led a balanced attack with 16 points and eighth-ranked Roanoke College smashed Eastern Mennonite 97-50 Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament.

The Lady Maroons (21-4) will meet Virginia Wesleyan, a 65-62 winner over Randolph-Macon, in Friday's semifinals at the Salem Civic Center. That matchup is scheduled to tip off at 1 p.m.

Melissa Hensley led the Royals (6-17) with 27 points.

Melody Derrow scored 23 points to lead Bridgewater over visiting Hollins (8-14) 76-57 in another first-round game.

Robin Gaines scored 29 points to finish her career as Hollins' all-time leading scorer with 1,272 points.

Bridgewater (19-7) advances to face Lynchburg, a 62-59 winner over Emory & Henry, at 3 p.m. Friday in Salem.
