SHELTON, LANDON G., SR.

Landon Gordon Shelton Sr., age 89, a retired school teacher, formerly of Charleston, S.C., died Friday, February 22, 1991, in Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was born in Keeling, Va., on October 14, 1901, son of the late Dr. Rawley Martin Shelton and Ida Bennett Shelton. He was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy, Marshall College, Virginia Tech, and a member of the Old Guard. He served as Head Master of the Hardin Reynolds Memorial School of Critz, as Principalship in the city schools of Virgilina, Wylesburg, Valentine, North Staunton, and Kenbridge, and retired as head of the Agriculture Department in Laurel, Del. In 1959 he was awarded a gold watch from the Sears Roebuck Foundation in appreciation of 36 years of outstanding service to Agriculture Education. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Hattie Lee Price Shelton. Surviving are his son, Landon Shelton Jr. of Blacksburg; three brothers, Howard M. Shelton of Harrisonburg; Edward D. Shelton of Martinsville; Hilton Shelton of Danville; a sister-in-law, Stella Keister and a brother-in-law, Justin Price, both of Price's Fork; nephews, nieces and many friends. A memorial service will be Sunday, February 24, 2:00 p.m. at Hoy-McCoy Funeral Home, conducted by Pastor Jacob Mayer. Arrangements by Hoy-McCoy Funeral Home.
