RANDOLPH-MACON BEATS BLUE MARLINS

With the three other teams each having more than 20 victories, Virginia Wesleyan basketball coach Terry Butterfield had to feel a little like the lonely stepchild of the Old Dominion Atheltic Conference Tournament semifinals.

But his fifth-seeded Blue Marlins (12-14) did get to play Cinderella for a little while Friday night. Then midnight came early, and their carriage turned back into a pumpkin.

Top-seeded Randolph-Macon overcame a horrendous start and a gritty Virginia Wesleyan team to advance to the ODAC title game with a 72-48 victory at the Salem Civic Center.

The Yellow Jackets (24-2), ranked eighth in Division III, will go for their second-straight ODAC championship against Emory & Henry tonight at 8:30.
