WILLIAMSON ROAD TEAMS SWEEP TITLES

Williamson Road Recreation Club teams won the Biddy and Midget championships Sunday in the club's own invitational basketball tournament at Breckinridge.

The WRRC Rockets edged the North Roanoke Bulls 17-12 in the Biddy game as Brandon Welch and Wesley Woolwine each had six points. Jason Underwood had a game-high 10 for North Roanoke.

The WRRC Hornets won the Midget crown with a 44-36 victory against the Cave Spring Scouts. Xavier Lee led WRRC with 24 points and Michael Yates added 10. Both were selected to the all-tournament team. Billy Jones, also an all-tournament choice, scored 15 to lead the Scouts.

The Scouts had beaten the Wilmont Rockets 25-22 to reach the final, and the Hornets had ousted the Southwest Supersonics 47-34. - Staff report
