Harry Pierce Simpkins, age 79, of Rt. 1, Hiwassee (Snowville Community), died Sunday in the VA Medical Center, Salem. Born September 22, 1911, in Snowville, Va., he was the son of the late Wayne Herbert Simpkins and Dellie Myrtle Wilson Simpkins. He was a retired farmer. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, where he received two Purple Hearts. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter Old Dominion St. #1. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. William (Myrtle) O'Dell, Pulaski, Va.; nieces and nephews, Harold R. and Verily Simpkins, Hiwassee; Mrs. Joe (Violet) Sowers, Christiansburg; Wanda Martin, Radford; Tommy Martin, Richmond; Barbara (Bobbi) Cain, Dublin; Letha Carol Simpkins, Radford; a number of great-nices and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with the Rev. Sam A. Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery, Shiloh, Va. Visiting will be anytime Tuesday. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski. Full military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Hillsville Grover King Post #1115, Hillsville, Va. Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bobwhite Blvd., Pulaski, is handling the arrangements.
