Customers use the Kroger branch primarily for cashing checks, a spokeswoman said, so the full-service facility is not paying its way. The branch also is near Dominion's Hershberger Road office. Employees will be transferred to other branches in Roanoke, she said.
The closing leaves Dominion with seven branches in Kroger stores in the Roanoke Valley and Harrisonburg.
Dominion also said Wednesday it has set dates for merger of the last of its Virginia banks into a single bank with headquarters in Roanoke. Dominion in Shenandoah Valley will become part of the Roanoke bank on March 8, and Dominion Bank of Greater Hampton Roads will consolidate on March 29. The Richmond and Northern Virginia banks already have merged with the Roanoke bank. - Staff report
