C&S/SOVRAN TO UNIFY D.C.-AREA BANKING

C&S/Sovran Corp. said Wednesday it will unify its community banking activities in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia. The Norfolk-based company, which operates Sovran Bank offices in Western Virginia, said its goal is to create a common organizational and marketing strategy for consumer and commercial business.

C&S/Sovran said it has the capital region's largest banking network with 146 branches and $6.1 billion in deposits. That represents 11.2 percent of all deposits in the Metro D.C. region. - Staff report
