TEXAS FIRM TO RUN SIGNET DATA NETWORK

Signet Banking Corp. will turn over management of its computer operations to a Texas company to save an estimated $137 million over the next 10 years. Signet said Dallas-based Electronic Data Systems will manage the Richmond-based bank holding company's data center and telecommunications and programming operations.

About 270 Signet employees will become EDS employees when the 10-year contract takes effect in 30 days, said Robert M. Freeman, Signet chairman and chief executive officer. - Associated Press
