The grant is from the Virginia Community College System and will be used for a project known as "Integration of Automated Process Control in Technical Education."
Through this activity, instructors will develop materials for several different classes dealing with the automation of manufacturing processes. The materials will allow students to see the begin-to-end stages of a manufacturing process.
Last year, Autodesk Inc. and Fischer America selected the college as a test site for the exploration and instruction of the their graphics and modeling technologies, respectively. Available funding helped to combine these programs.
Integrated with the computer graphics software program and a physical modeling system, New River Community College now is closer to being able to provide a complete visualization of the total design cycle in manufacturing operations.
