EXAMINER URGES CUT IN VA. POWER REQUEST

Glenn P. Richardson, a State Corporation commission hearing examiner, has recommended that Virginia Power's $136.9 million interim rate increase be trimmed by almost $69 million. It is the second such recommendation this week. On Tuesday, an examiner suggested the commission trim Appalachian Power's request for $43.3 million in higher rates to $15.9 million.
