PHONE EQUIPMENT EN ROUTE TO KUWAIT

American Telephone & Telegraph Co. said Thursday that it was sending equipment to Kuwait City that would make it possible to place international phone calls from the battered capital by Sunday.

Satellite dishes and the necessary electronic transmission gear left Riyadh, the Saudi capital, by road Thursday, said Herb Linnen, a company spokesman.

Four AT&T employees will help install the equipment and 120 telephones in a building to be chosen by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Communications.

The small satellite station will initially be able to send international calls, but not receive them. - The New York Times
