WORKSHOP BOARD NAMES CHAIRWOMAN

Lindsay West of Blacksburg was recently elected chairwoman of the New River Valley Workshop board of directors, replacing departing chairman Don Adkins of Radford.

West is a former member and chairwoman of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors, a governing body on which she sat for 11 years.

She is also active in many local and state organizations.

West is chairwoman of New River Community Action's board and sits on the state's mental health board.

New River Valley Workshop is a private, non-profit corporation that provides skills training, employment and support services for disabled individuals.

Founded in 1970, the Radford-based workshop operates two vocational training centers, one wood products manufacturing plant and two residential facilities.

The workshop also has two work crews, employing 10 disabled workers, that are assigned to Virginia Tech performing grounds maintenance duties each day.
