George S. Chambers, age 65, died Monday, March 4, 1991 at University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville. He was an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Fincastle, a former Senior Design Engineer at General Electric Corp., Salem and formerly in Waynesboro with 35 years service. Mr. Chambers obtained a number of patents on electrical circuits which control large power generators. He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and had several technical articles published by the Institute. He was active in Literary Volunteers of Roanoke and he served in the US Navy during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Alice P. Chambers; one daughter, Susan P. Chambers, Eden, N.C.; one sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Sarah C. Marshall and husband, George, Thibodaux, Louisiana; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's North Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 7, with the Rev. Harmon Smith and the Rev. Frank W. Feather officiating. Burial will be in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Fincastle or to the Literary Volunteers of Roanoke Valley, 2728 Colonial Ave., SW, Roanoke. Friends may call Oakey's North Chapel where the family where receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.
