FORMER OAK HILL STAR TO STAND TRIAL ON MARCH 18

A high school star accused of sexually assaulting a Syracuse University student while on a recruiting visit will stand trial on March 18.

Wilfred Kirkaldy pleaded innocent in Onondaga County Court to two felony counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of disorderly conduct. He was charged with first-degree rape when he was arrested, but a grand jury handed up the lesser charges.

Judge J. Kevin Mulroy allowed Kirkaldy to remain free on the $500 bail he previously posted.

Kirkaldy, 18, of Brooklyn, is accused of assaulting an 18-year-old female in his room at the Sheraton University Inn near the Syracuse campus last Sept. 22. The woman claimed Kirkaldy forcibly had sexual intercourse with her after she accompanied him to his hotel.

The 6-foot-10 Kirkaldy has denied having sexual intercourse with the woman.

Kirkaldy was expelled from Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., four days after his arrest. He now is enrolled at Simon Gratz High School, a basketball powerhouse in Philadelphia.
