TEACHER GROUPS ARE NOT UNIONS

WHEN ARE your news articles and your staff writer (who ought to know better) going to stop branding the professional organizations for educators as unions?

They are not and never have been such. Unions for teachers (and other groups in the state) are illegal! Groups like the Virginia Education Association, Roanoke Education Association, Roanoke County Education Association, etc., have no legal standing as unions - which would allow such things as binding arbitration (also not recognized in Virginia).

Your newspaper only serves to perpetuate ignorance and antagonize the public when you continue to use that term painting educators as troublesome agitators. E. ANNE PAULL TROUTVILLE
