FISHWICK: A FRESH OUTLOOK ON HISTORY

THANK YOU for giving me such a lift March 1. It is always pure joy to read Marshall Fishwick [Commentary Page]. I have been a fan of his since I read "Virginia: a State of Mind" and "Gentlemen of Virginia." His less-than-stuffed-shirt approach to history is a breath of fresh air.

I hope you will continue to feature his essays. Don't get me wrong - I value the work of Paxton Davis, too, but are these two men different, or what? It certainly makes for a balanced view of many issues. FRANCILE B. WRIGHT LEXINGTON
