WROV SETS HIGH SCHOOL COVERAGE

Radio station WROV (1240 AM) has plans for game coverage of two Roanoke high schools, Patrick Henry and Northside, in the state boys' basketball tournaments starting Thursday.

Jim Carroll and Hollins coach Jerry English will call the games.

On Thursday, WROV's high school coverage will be affected by Virginia broadcasts from the NCAA Tournament.

The Roanoke station will carry the UVa-Brigham Young game at 7:35 p.m., pre-empting the PH-George Wythe (Richmond) game in the state Group AAA tournament. WROV will do PH score updates during breaks in the UVa broadcast. WROV will air Thursday night's Northside-Matoca state Group AA game on tape delay when the UVa game ends, about 10:15 p.m.

If both Roanoke schools win, they would play at the same time Friday, 8:45 p.m. The Patrick Henry game would be aired Friday if both win Thursday, with score reports from the Northside game inserted into the PH broadcast. If PH loses Thursday and Northside wins, then Northside will be aired live.

The Saturday schedule has several contingencies. If Virginia beats BYU, the Cavaliers' airtime for the second round will be 1:50 p.m. If either PH or Northside is playing for a state title and UVa is on the air, the high school game will be aired on tape about 4:30 p.m.

If UVa is out Saturday, any high school championship game will be aired live at 2:45 p.m.
