HOKIES GET 2 VICTORIES IN BASEBALL

Scott Robertson pitched a two-hit shutout as Virginia Tech upset 14th-ranked Fresno State 4-0, then Brad Clontz pitched a seven-hitter for a 4-2 victory over Indiana State in the Pepsi/Me-n-Ed's Baseball Classic on Friday.

Robertson (2-0), a sophomore from Patrick Henry High School, struck out five, walked one and allowed only three balls to be hit out of the outfield. Shaun Thomas was 2-for-2 for Tech.

The Hokies are 8-5 overall and 2-3 in the eight-team tournament.

In the second game, Tech made the most of four hits to beat Indiana State (5-5, 2-3). Les Jennette's run-scoring double put Tech up 3-0 in the third inning. Clontz (3-2), a sophomore right-hander, struck out seven and walked two. Staff report
